Operation Safe Driver Week July 12-18

July 12-18, law enforcement throughout North America and Canada will be looking for drivers engaging in unsafe driving behavior’s on our nation’s roadways. The week-long initiative will focus on speeding, due to an alarming increase of average speeds measured during the first week of April, 2020. According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), speeds increased 75% compared to January and February. Last year, during Operation Safe Week, 47,000 citations and around 88,000 warnings were given out per data collected from law enforcement personnel.

In addition to speeding, law enforcement will be looking for other dangerous driving behaviors such as:
  • Distracted driving
  • Failure to use a seat belt
  • Following to closely
  • Improper lane change
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to obey traffic control devices
  • Mobile phone use
